What Genre is right for You?

Before you can write anything, you have to determine what type of writing you want to do. There are many genres available. Below is a list of some of the writing types you can chose from. This is not to say that if you chose Romance you can't also write great children's books or a mystery. It is just an idea of what type of writing you would like to start with. You can also combine writing styles if you like.

Romance

There are many great ROMANCE writers. Are you one? Can you imagine a romantic setting with a beautiful heroine and a handsome hero? If so, you may want to give ROMANCE a shot.

Mystery

What is better on a rainy night than curling up with a good MYSTERY. Does your head fill with "who-done-it" type ideas? Do you live for a good mystery to solve? Then maybe you should try your hand at writing a MYSTERY.

Non-Fiction

My personal opinion is that non-fiction is the hardest of the genres to write. The amount of research is never ending. If you like to read fact based books about topics that interest others but they don't want to do all that research, then non-fiction is for you.

Children's Stories

Want to touch a child's heart? Like to write about sugar and spice and everything nice. Then CHILDREN'S STORIES may be the genre for you.

Short Stories

If you are like me and have the imagination and the ideas but not the time or the stick-to-it drive, then short stories may be the way to go. I have a ton of ideas but to keep going until a complete novel is done, that is where I falter. The quick short story is easier to write, research, and edit. Easy...THAT'S FOR ME!
